The ceremony, held on Monday (18/12/2023), is part of the security preparations for the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) period in 2024.

The Head of Public Relations explained that this security operation is carried out through Operation Lilin 2023/2024, which takes place from December 22, 2023, to January 2, 2024.

The security measures involve the deployment of 129,923 personnel.

According to the Head of Public Relations, there will be peak traffic on December 22-23, 2023, and return traffic on December 26-27, 2023.

In anticipation of this, the Indonesian National Police has prepared traffic engineering, including contraflow and one-way systems.

“The Public Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police, through the Public Relations Task Force in Operation Lilin 2023, is conducting a series of operational activities,” said the Head of Public Relations.

“This ranges from the escorting phase, implementation, to the conclusion of Operation Lilin 2023,” he added.

The Head of Public Relations mentioned that in this operation, police personnel in the Public Relations Division must strengthen synergy with other stakeholders.

Additionally, they need to intensify the dissemination of applicable rules during the Nataru holiday.

“The police are expected to encourage travelers to report the houses they leave behind to the nearest police station,” he said. “This way, the information can be recorded and patrols can be conducted,” he stated.

The Head of Public Relations stated that they will also provide parking facilities at police stations for travelers who want to leave their vehicles.

“Of course, the public is also advised to ensure safety during the journey home and New Year celebrations,” said the Head of Public Relations.

On New Year’s Eve, he said, people will gather in crowded places such as shopping centers and entertainment venues.

Therefore, the Head of Public Relations emphasized the need for extra security in these locations to ensure a sense of safety during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“Of course, the police also have the duty to secure the worship activities of the Christian community during the Christmas period,” he added.

Finally, the Head of Public Relations emphasized that the change in weather entering the rainy season is also considered in this security preparation.

They have prepared the Contingency Task Force Ops Aman Nusa as a readiness effort in case of natural disasters. (*)
