Hargo.co.id, JAPAN – The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Tokyo confirmed that as of Tuesday (2/1), no Indonesian citizens (WNI) have been reported as casualties due to the earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture on Monday (1/1) evening.
“Based on communication conducted by KBRI Tokyo with community representatives, there have been no reports of Indonesian casualties. As of Tuesday afternoon (2/1), nine Indonesian citizens, including students and interns, remain in shelters,” said the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Heri Akhmadi, in Tokyo on Tuesday (2/1).
Ambassador Heri stated that they continue to monitor the conditions of Indonesian citizens residing in Ishikawa Prefecture and several other affected prefectures following the magnitude 7.6 earthquake accompanied by a tsunami warning along the west coast of Japan.
“A few minutes after the disaster, the KBRI Tokyo team contacted community representatives at the disaster site via telephone. They have generally left their residences based on local government directives to temporarily stay in shelters,” he said.
He mentioned that they are preparing logistical assistance to anticipate emergency conditions during their stay in shelters, coordinating with local governments for data collection and the health conditions of Indonesian citizens.
“Obey the advisories and instructions from local government authorities. Do not return to residential areas in situations deemed unsafe by local disaster personnel. KBRI Tokyo, assisted by community representatives, is ready to assist the urgent needs of Indonesian citizens in disaster-stricken areas,” Ambassador Heri added.
An earthquake with a magnitude of approximately 7.6 struck Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, on Monday (1/1) at 16:10 JST or 14:10 WIB.
It was reported that the earthquake was also felt in the regions of Niigata, Toyama, Fukui, Nagano, Gifu, Tokyo, Yamagata, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Shizuoka, Aichi, Mie, Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, Tottori, Iwate, Miyagi, and Akita.
The earthquake caused tsunami waves in several areas.
KBRI Tokyo and KJRI Osaka continue to coordinate with local authorities and contact various community representatives in the affected areas to ensure the well-being of Indonesian citizens. There are 1,315 Indonesian citizens residing in Ishikawa Prefecture, 1,344 in Toyama, and 1,132 in Niigata.
With the lifting of the tsunami warning on Tuesday morning (2/1/2024), most residents have been allowed to return home.
