Hargo.co.id – Chelsea put on a fantastic display as they thrashed Middlesbrough 6-1 in the second leg of the Carabao Cup 2023/2024 semi-final held at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday (24/1/2024) early morning local time.
Cole Palmer scored two of Chelsea’s six goals against Boro. The other four goals came from own goals by Jonny Howson, Enzo Fernandez, Axel Disasi, and Noni Madueke. Boro managed to score a consolation goal through Morgan Rogers.
Thanks to this result, Chelsea secured a spot in the final with an aggregate victory of 6-2. In the final, Chelsea will face the winner of the other semi-final match between Fulham and Liverpool.
First Half
Chelsea, eager to overturn the aggregate deficit, immediately tried to play aggressively from the start. The hosts took the lead in the 15th minute thanks to Howson’s own goal while attempting to intercept Armando Broja’s pass.
Enzo Fernandez doubled Chelsea’s lead in the 29th minute before Disasi added his name to the scoresheet after capitalizing on Raheem Sterling’s assist in the 36th minute.
In the 42nd minute, a defensive error allowed Cole Palmer to easily score past Tom Glover. Chelsea maintained a 4-0 lead until halftime.
Second Half
Returning from the locker room, Chelsea continued their pressure. However, the hosts only managed to extend their lead in the 77th minute through Palmer’s second goal.
Four minutes later, Madueke scored after his shot, which was attempted to be cleared by Rav van den Berg, still found its way into Glover’s net.
Middlesbrough finally got a consolation goal in the 88th minute with a beautiful curling shot from Rogers. The final result of 6-1 in favor of Chelsea concluded this match.(*)
