Polri’s Public Relations Division Head, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, states that neutrality is a non-negotiable commitment for all police personnel in Indonesia.

Sandi Nugroho asserted this commitment during the Pyramid event (Coffee Chat with Media Leaders) at Pulau Dua Restaurant, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (20/11/2023). The event was also attended by the Chief of the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Department, Commissioner General Wahyu Widada.

“So, police neutrality is non-negotiable to preserve unity and integrity in safeguarding the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI),” said Sandi in front of media chief editors.

Sandi also encourages the oversight of all police personnel suspected of violating this commitment. He believes that collective monitoring will assist Polri in ensuring a safe, peaceful, and conducive five-yearly democratic celebration.

“Please admonish and monitor if police members deviate from the rules, so they can improve and better themselves,” said Sandi. “This is to build a well-functioning, smooth, and peaceful election.”

Sandi also calls on all media chief editors to collaborate in educating and promoting literacy among the public, especially concerning the dissemination of hoaxes on social media.

“We must provide literacy education to the public so that they become law-abiding citizens in the future,” he said. “Also, upholding ethics, manners, courtesy, and honesty.”

He also urges the public to be wiser in using social media, particularly in disseminating information.

“Be wiser in using social media to avoid it backfiring on the users,” he concluded. (*)
