Hargo.co.id, GORONTALO – Many people are currently in search of used cars, whether at showrooms or through online buying and selling platforms. Observing the prices of used cars on online sales sites, they tend to be cheaper than those at showrooms.

From the seller’s perspective, there is the potential to get the best price by selling independently through applications rather than selling to dealers or used car showrooms, which usually negotiate lower prices.
However, this situation has been exploited by irresponsible individuals, using the triangle scheme in the buying and selling of used cars.

Responding to the rise in cases of fraud in buying and selling with this triangle scheme, Director of General Crime Investigation of the Gorontalo Regional Police, Police Commissioner Nur Santiko, SIK, MH, urges the public to be cautious.
Nur Santiko explained that in the triangle scheme fraud, the fraudster can act as an intermediary who deceives the vehicle owner or seller and the buyer.
“In other words, the fraudster acts as both the seller and the buyer,” he said.
Furthermore, he described the main characteristics of this scheme, where the fraudster influences the victim to claim that they cannot meet in person. Instead, someone will represent the buying and selling process, but the transaction must go directly to the fraudster via transfer.
“Then the fraudster immediately disappears, taking away the proceeds of the crime,” explained the head of the General Crime Investigation Directorate of the Gorontalo Regional Police.
He called for the cooperation of the entire community to remind each other to anticipate the occurrence of this criminal activity. (*)
