A KPU Commissioner in North Sumatra Caught in an OTT Operation

Hargo.co.id, NORTH SUMATRA – A commissioner of the KPU in Padangsidimpuan City, North Sumatra Province, was caught in a sting operation by the local police’s anti-illegal levies (Pungli) task force.

Reported by nusantaraterkini.co, the KPU Commissioner, identified as PH, was arrested at a café in Padangsidimpuan City on Saturday (27/1/2024) early morning.

According to the Director of Criminal Investigation of North Sumatra Police, Commissioner Pol Sumaryono, PH was apprehended while distributing money allegedly obtained from extortion. Sumaryono stated that they seized Rp 25 million from PH.

Sumaryono explained that PH’s arrest stemmed from information received indicating that a commissioner was attempting to secure victory for a particular legislative candidate in the 2024 election.

“Upon receiving the information, we immediately launched an investigation to verify it,” he said, adding that PH’s arrest was led directly by AKBP Musa P Tampubolon.

“I will inform you of any developments; our team is still working in the field,” he said.

Regarding the motive, Sumaryono disclosed that PH requested a sum of money from a candidate, promising votes in the 2024 election.(*)
