Hargo.co.id, GORONTALO – Pohuwato Regency in the Gorontalo Province has the potential to become one of the largest suppliers of wood pellets in Indonesia for export purposes.
This potential is realized through the operation of PT. Biomasa Jaya Abadi (BJA), projected to produce up to 900,000 tons of wood pellets per year.
Since 2023, PT. BJA has engaged in wood pellet exports to several Asian countries such as Japan and South Korea.
Deputy Regent of Pohuwato, Suharsi Igirisa, welcomed the positive presence of PT. BJA in investing and developing business in the region.
Notably, the majority of the workforce involved in the company’s activities are local residents, including suppliers from Pohuwato and its surrounding areas.
“We hope that PT. BJA continues to optimize local labor in its future business endeavors.
Through this approach, the company’s presence can benefit the community and stimulate the economic growth of Pohuwato Regency,” said Suharsi Igirisa during a discussion with PT. BJA management in Marisa, Pohuwato, on Wednesday (17/1/2024).
Deputy Regent Suharsi added that the operational activities of PT. BJA, which have met all required licensing aspects, will provide business certainty and a promising future for local workers.
“We have heard explanations to the Gorontalo Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) Commission I regarding the previously questioned permits. With the resolution of licensing issues, as a representative of the people and the government, I highly appreciate it,” he added.
Meanwhile, PT. BJA Operational Director Burhanuddin explained that the current number of local workers and suppliers exceeds 1000 people.
Over 95 percent of PT. BJA’s workforce comes from Pohuwato and its surrounding areas.
As a company that invests significantly for the long term, PT. BJA hopes to contribute even more to the economy of Pohuwato Regency and the Gorontalo Province.
“Since the beginning of our investment in Pohuwato, our commitment has been to empower the potential of local labor and contribute to the income of this region.
Therefore, we are grateful for the support of the Gorontalo Provincial Government and Pohuwato Regency, along with all other stakeholders, towards PT. BJA’s business activities,” explained Burhanuddin.
Previously, the Gorontalo Province Environmental and Forestry Agency (DLHK) ensured that the permits for PT. Biomasa Jaya Abadi (BJA) were complete, in accordance with procedures and with an environmental impact analysis (AMDAL).
The Decree of the Environmental Impact Analysis (PBPHH) obtained from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) complies with regulations.
Head of Planning and Capacity Improvement at DLHK Gorontalo, Nasruddin, stated that PT. BJA’s permits were legally sound, complete in terms of licensing and environmental aspects.
The responsibility for environmental aspects lies with PT. Banyan Tumbuh Lestari (BTL) and PT. Inti Global Laksana (IGL) as the holders of the Land Use Right (HGU).
PT. BJA has a collaboration with both companies to process the results from the land.
This integrated approach aligns with existing regulations. Government Regulation No. 27 of 2012 on Environmental Permits, in Article 8, Paragraph 3, states that:
“An integrated study approach is carried out when the initiator plans to undertake more than one type of business and/or activity, and the planning and management are interrelated within a unified ecosystem area,
and supervision and/or management are under more than one Ministry, non-Ministerial government institutions, working units, provincial governments, or district/city government working units,” he clarified.
“PT. IGL and BTL have obtained environmental approval permits issued by Pohuwato Regency, and at that time, the authority was with the Regency Government.
It has been clear from the environmental permitting aspect. Then, PT. BJA comes in to process the results of land clearing, and there is an MoU between IGL, BTL, and BJA,”
added Nasaruddin during a working visit to PT. BJA in Marisa, Pohuwato, Gorontalo Province, on Wednesday (17/1/2024). (Adv)
