Hargo.co.id, GORONTALO – The recent demonstration leading to unrest and vandalism of several office buildings in Pohuwato Regency has once again captured public attention.
Besides the ongoing trial process, allegations of human rights violations by certain authorities in securing the suspects have garnered serious attention from the National Commission on Human Rights or Komnas HAM.
As explained by the legal representative of the defendants, Susanto Kadir, despite being initially pessimistic about the report of human rights violations experienced by his clients, Komnas HAM has indeed given full attention to the reported violations.
This is evidenced by a letter from Komnas HAM addressed to him as their legal advisor.
“Yesterday, we received a letter from Komnas HAM. In that letter, they conveyed that Komnas HAM is giving serious attention to allegations of professional misconduct or violence committed by members of the Regional Mobile Brigade (Resmob) of Gorontalo Regional Police,” said Susanto Kadir after the trial at the Anti-Corruption Court (Tipikor) in Gorontalo on Tuesday (1/9/2024).
Moreover, Susanto clarified that the content of the letter explained that Komnas HAM is conducting an investigation or clarification efforts regarding the allegations of human rights violations to the Gorontalo Regional Police.
“In that letter, Irwasda is requested (by Komnas HAM) to conduct an examination of the investigators or police officers that we reported,” he added.
Regarding the report of human rights violations, Susanto mentioned that his team reported seven individuals suspected of carrying out violent actions and deviating from procedures.
“Besides Komnas HAM, the internal affairs process at the Gorontalo Regional Police is also ongoing. However, we have not received the latest information or any updates on how it is progressing. In the near future, we will visit the Gorontalo Regional Police again to exert pressure for action against these individuals,” he added.
However, Susanto emphasized that, as the legal representative of the defendants, he does not question the legal process entangling his clients. Still, for him and his team, it is crucial that their clients also receive justice for the actions of the alleged authorities who committed violations.
“So here we are responsible according to their actions, but on the other hand, actions by authorities that exceed limits are also unacceptable; it is not allowed,” he concluded. (*)
