The Head of Public Relations of the Banten Regional Police, Commissioner Pol Didik Hariyanto, stated that this precaution is necessary to anticipate the eruption of the volcano.
He explained that the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has provided information regarding the activity of GAK.
According to Didik, the eruption of GAK occurred on Tuesday (5/12/23) at 04:38 AM.
“The eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 63 mm and a duration of about 41 seconds,” said Didik on Wednesday (6/12/23).
The eruption that occurred yesterday, according to Didik, was the second one after GAK emitted volcanic ash for the first time on Sunday (3/12/23).
Information from PVMBG mentioned that the eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 72 millimeters and a duration of approximately 34 seconds.
In response to this event, they advise fishermen and coastal residents not to approach GAK or engage in activities within a five-kilometer radius from the active crater.
“At present, Mount Anak Krakatau is at alert level III,” said Didik.
“Therefore, we advise coastal residents, especially fishermen, not to approach the mountain within a radius of five kilometers,” he added.(*)
