In the event, Helena Fiorentina emphasized the role of young people in combating corruption. She also explained how law enforcement could support young people by providing a safe opportunity to voice their aspirations.

Annika Whytes, the Regional Anti-Corruption Advisor for Southeast Asia and the Pacific UNODC, hopes that this can serve as an example.

According to her, young people worldwide can be inspired by what Police Cadet Helena and others have done.

“In the future, they will be the leaders of the nation. They will also become figures for others in their community,” she said on Thursday (12/14/2023).

In addition to Helena, the other three winners were Police Cadets from the police academies of Vietnam, Le Thi Cam Van, Thailand, Jiramet Sungkeetanon, and the Philippines, Marc Joseph L. Vitto.

The United Nations Convention Against Corruption in Atlanta, USA, is an essay competition involving cadets from Southeast Asian countries.

This essay competition discusses corruption issues in Indonesia and how to mitigate them.

Participants include representatives from the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

In the competition, Police Brigadier Cadet Helena chose a theme about crucial corruption issues in Indonesia, their impact on Indonesian society, and what the Police Cadet Academy can do to prevent corruption.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, hopes that this achievement can be emulated by other Police Cadets and members of the Indonesian National Police.

According to him, the achievement of Police Brigadier Cadet Helena has brought honor to the Bhayangkara Corps and Indonesia.

He added that the Chief of Police has conveyed that the institution will provide awards for Police Cadets and members of the Indonesian National Police who achieve outstanding performance.

Thus, everyone will be motivated to compete in achieving accomplishments.

“The Chief of Police also always gives the highest respect to Police Cadets and all personnel of the Indonesian National Police who have achieved achievements,” he concluded.(*)
