Hargo.co.id, West Sumatra – The West Sumatra Police stated that one victim’s body from the eruption of Mount Marapi has been found this morning.
The Head of Public Relations of the West Sumatra Police, Commissioner Pol. Dwi S, revealed that, based on data from hikers at the BKSDA post, all 75 hikers have been located.
“Earlier this morning, we received information that this one has been taken to the hospital, so based on the data, all 75 have been found,” said Dwi on Wednesday (6/12/2023).
Despite finding all the listed victims, the search process continues to ensure there are no other casualties.
“The data we obtained, the 75 are from hikers registered online,” explained Dwi.
“It is feared that many other hikers did not register through the application. So the search is still ongoing,” he added.
Based on data from the complaint post at the hospital until last night, there are still 30 families who have not received information about the whereabouts of their relatives.
Therefore, according to Dwi, the search is still ongoing.
“That means there are still seven more to be found,” he clarified.
Dwi added that the search situation on the summit of Mount Marapi is currently hampered by weather conditions. The rainy conditions make the trails slippery.
In addition, fog is also a challenge for the evacuation process. Moreover, the eruption itself is still ongoing.
“The personnel of the evacuation team do not all master the terrain, so during the third day of evacuation activities, we included residents who knew the situation there,” he explained.
He mentioned that the people around Mount Marapi are still going about their activities as usual. Because the eruption location is far from residential areas.
“The community’s activities are still running normally because there are no residential areas affected,” he concluded.(*)
