Hargo.co.id, GORONTALO – Post-revitalization, Central Market in Gorontalo City remains devoid of visitors. Consequently, the income of traders has plummeted.

As expressed by Sahrul Van Gobel, a 51-year-old trader, he admitted that his income is diminishing day by day.

“We, the traders, especially myself, have been experiencing a decline in income due to the lack of visitors. Before (Central Market) was renovated, my daily income was IDR 750,000. Now it’s only IDR 150,000 per day,” lamented the clothing vendor.

Sahrul suspects that the lack of visitors to Central Market is because many of his fellow traders have opened stalls on the roadside.

“Perhaps many other traders have started selling on the roadside, making people less likely to shop at this market again,” he added.

The decline in visitors at Central Market, inaugurated by Mayor of Gorontalo Marten Taha on August 17, 2023, is also felt by the parking attendant, Oman Lakoro. Oman said his income has drastically decreased compared to the pre-revitalization period.

Oman hopes that this issue receives serious attention from the Gorontalo City Government.

“Our hope is that the local government can follow up on this, finding ways to revitalize Central Market and bring back its vibrancy,” Oman expressed. (*)
