“Alhamdulillah, now there’s money to buy chili, which has become very expensive,” said a resident who preferred not to be named, after receiving BPNTD symbolically handed over by Gorontalo City Mayor, Marten Taha, on Friday (12/8/2023) at GOR Nani Wartabone.

BPNTD is a program by the Gorontalo City Government aimed at accelerating the handling of extreme poverty. The program is funded by fiscal incentive funds obtained by the Gorontalo City Government from the central government, recognizing their success in addressing extreme poverty in the region.

According to Gorontalo City Mayor Marten Taha, the BPNTD program is rolled out to 1,250 extremely poor residents verified by the Social and Community Empowerment Service.

“The total budget we allocate for this program is IDR 626 million, intended for 1,250 extremely poor residents. Distribution is done through the financial services of PT. POS Indonesia via the POS Giro Cash application with an application fee of IDR 14,000 per beneficiary. We cover the application fee,” explained Marten.

Marten hopes that the assistance provided can be utilized to the fullest by the beneficiaries.

“Spend it on basic needs. Don’t spend it on other things,” Marten advised the BPNTD recipients.

It is worth noting that, besides BPNTD, the Gorontalo City Government has also launched other assistance programs to expedite the handling of extreme poverty.

These programs include providing essential supplies to 1,000 beneficiaries through the Food Agency, housing improvement assistance, and more. (*)
