Hargo.co.id, GORONTALO – The Association of Regencies Governments throughout Indonesia (APKASI) held a meeting to discuss the reduction of the terms of regional heads elected in the simultaneous elections of 2020, originally set to end in 2026, on Thursday (11/1/2024).
The event, held in the Puri Ratna room, Grand Sahid Jaya Jakarta, was attended by Gorontalo Regent, Nelson Pomalingo.
During the forum, Nelson asserted that regional heads whose terms were shortened have a significant opportunity to challenge this reduction through regional autonomy (Otda).
Additionally, Nelson mentioned the extraordinary legal basis for protesting term reductions, emphasizing that such reductions violate constitutional rights and contradict the law.
“Even those with only sixty days can be affected. Meanwhile, for more than two hundred days, which is only seven months, it is possible. Moreover, our term is over a year. So, our chances for this still exist,” expressed Nelson.
He further questioned the issued decree (SK), where, according to Nelson, the term of office stated in the SK is five years, but it has recently been accelerated.
“The SK that was made needs to be questioned, and if this acceleration is proposed, it seems inconsistent,” Nelson emphasized.
He also suggested that after this meeting, APKASI should promptly form a team to delve deeper into this issue and build a commitment to advocate for it.
“It is hoped that this can be implemented before the legislative and presidential elections take place because usually, the central government, due to its interests, will serve us. Therefore, in the near future, there should be results for all of us,” concluded Regent Nelson.(*)
